XBLIG Review: Bonded Realities

“This is simply a good game with great humor – don’t write it off by the graphics!”

An XboxHornet review by Mercedes.

I have a bad habit when it comes to video games. Artistically speaking, the more a game looks like it was created in MSPaint, the larger the chance I immediately write the game off as dog poop. Luckily for Bonded Realities and Red Crest Studios, I am a benevolent reviewer, willing to give each game an equal chance at glory. Well, I am glad I gave this game a chance because it ended up becoming a surprisingly delightful and hilarious romp.

The game begins with our four heroes at daycare (We love your children so you don’t have to) playing in a sandbox; when suddenly the sandbox goes crazy and throws them all into an alternate reality. An alternate reality where you face awesome enemies like tuning forks and when you kill them, you “silence” them. It seems that the artist direction in Bonded Realities was to go lax on game environment and use their imagination on the game enemies.

The game’s humor may at times be crass and low-brow (Just the way I like it dammit) but the enemies are my absolute favorite part of my experience. I was excited to visit new areas just to see what new enemies the game creators would think up just so I can get my chuckle fix.

Bonded Realities has a nice addition that I hope other RPG companies pick up. It lets you enable random encounters. It makes backtracking and exploring so much better when you don’t have to waste time on fighting. The game also warns you when there’s a boss fight coming up so you can heal up and save before your face goes flying out of your ass. Yup, the bosses are difficult until you learn the trick to whoop their cheeks like some petulant child.

This is simply a good game with great humor. If you’re a fan of Cthulu Saves the World, there is a large chance you’ll become a fan of this as well.

Game Score: 8/10.
