Just this morning, Major Nelson announced that “Destination Arcade,” an Xbox 360 app designed to streamline and enhance the XBLA experience, is going to be released next week. The new feature app is going to be launched (initially in the US) on July 14th, and will include the ability to sort by price, community rating, recommendations from friends, and more. The app also appears to include functionality for finding similar games, new releases, and also for deals of the week to become a serious staple (taking up valuable and attractive real estate on the left side of the app’s dashboard).
Microsoft is definitely putting some attention into XBLA this summer, and with the upcoming and tantalizing release schedule, alongside now-regular Deals of the Week, it’s going to get some attention from gamers. Sadly, none of the pictures shown incorporate XBLIG, which would seriously benefit in both sales and market awareness from such an inclusion (even in a diminished capacity).
For those outside the US, or those who don’t like the new look, it has yet to be announced whether this app is mandatory, optional, or awaiting an imminent global release.
The fifth comment (not including this one) earns a free #XBLIG TransSubversion code. All codes will kept ‘pending’ until at least five have been made, so you won’t be sure where you are in the queue.
Here’s a comment to get you going.
Destination Arcade looks really cool, unfortunately I won’t be using it since it’s US Only at the moment.
This will def make it easier finding xbla games. Plus it looks pretty snazzy!
Microsoft should have done this first for XBLIG. There are over 1120 XBLIG games and only about 300 XBLA games. If Microsoft isn’t serious enough to help them out, then they might as well cancel the program.
Looks snazzy
Something like this would be great for XBLIG, seeing how there are far more of them the XBLA games now. It also shouldn’t be too hard for Microsoft to do, since most of the features of Destination Arcade don’t seem to require human intervention.
And for the second (third?) time in a row, Andrew nails the prize! Shame on you, lucky man!
Wow! Thanks! If only I did this well with the lottery …
